Did you know that burning a gallon of gas burns about 25 pounds of CO2? As we look for ways to reduce our carbon footprints, it seems to me that running (or walking) your errands is an easy way to cut back. I tried this a few weeks ago when the weather finally turned warmer. I put on my pedometer just to see how many steps I would take while I multi-tasked and mailed some things at the Post Office and met my husband for lunch. What would have taken two minutes in the car, took me only 10 minutes on foot and I walked 1,700 steps one way! That single errand got me more than a quarter way through my 10,000 step goal for the day. Plus, I felt a lot better for doing so.
Running (and walking, cycling) errands is also a great way to save money on gas too! This is super easy for urban folks, simply pack your shoes in your bag and walk from ths and can't walk your errands, consider parking at a central location near all the stores and walk to the bus or train to work. You'll get there faster and get a natural charge for the day! If you're out in the burbe bank, pharmacy and grocery store. Every step counts towards living a healthy lifestyle and preserving our planet.
Happy Trails,
