Training for a 5K or 10K Race

Although the word “race” sounds a bit intimidating, you’ll be surprised at the variety of people that toe the line in 5K and 10K races. Racing is the perfect carrot because it keeps you motivated to train, prepare and push beyond your limits. Once registered, your exercise regimen suddenly becomes “training” and every workout has a purpose. Whether you’re competing against the other runners, yourself, or the clock, the energy of the crowd captivates and motivates you to push beyond what you think you can do. And that’s not all, you even get a cute race shirt to wear after you finish!

The first step is to download one of my 5K or 10K training programs in "My Account" in your BeeWell Miles account. There are programs for everyone and every level from walking, to walk-running, run-walking and running. If you are new to activity, I recommend starting with the 5K walk program. Walking regularly? Go for the 10K walking program and boost your endurance. If you're a walker looking to add a little spice to your program try the walk-run program. It sprinkles in running minutes with mostly walking for a challenging and invigorating workout. The run-walk programs are perfect for those who want to learn to run and have been exercising regularly at least three times per week. It gradual builds over time and is the fun way to learn to run! All the programs gradually progress in distance and speed and allow your body and mind time to adapt and grow stronger.
